Named after the famous Australian mountaineer, the Greg Mortimer is a 160-capacity ship operating itineraries for AE Expeditions in Antarctica and the Arctic. It has been custom-built for cruising polar waters and boasts an Ulstein X-Bow, allowing faster, more comfortable speeds, lower fuel consumption, and fewer emissions.

Exploration & Discovery

The Greg Mortimer is equipped with a fleet of 15 Zodiacs easily accessible from one of four sea-level loading platforms. The Zodiacs are frequently used throughout every voyage on Greg Mortimer and can be deployed, weather permitting, up to twice daily.

The ship also boasts two hydraulic platforms at the front. A unique feature of the Greg Mortimer, these can be moved out over the water and allow for a dedicated observation area, which is particularly useful for spotting wildlife such as whales and polar bears.

For exploration ashore, selected itineraries offer activities such as kayaking, climbing, and even snowshoeing, with each excursion led by AE Expeditions’ highly trained team of expedition specialists.

Greg Mortimer Staterooms

The Greg Mortimer has 80 comfortable staterooms, all of which provide the perfect space to relax between adventures. There are five stateroom categories to choose from, ranging from those with a porthole window to those with a spacious balcony.

All of the staterooms on the Greg Mortimer boast en-suite bathroom facilities, a separate seating area, and beds that can be converted into twins or doubles. Connecting staterooms is also an option for families.

Greg Mortimer Dining

There is one main dining venue on Greg Mortimer, which can comfortably seat all of the ship’s guests. All meals onboard are served here and are prepared by a team of expert chefs, with enough choice and variation to suit even the most discerning of palettes. House wines, beers and soft drinks are included throughout dinner, while complimentary tea, coffee and snacks are also available outside of the main dining times.

Greg Mortimer Entertainment

As is common on many expedition ships, Greg Mortimer does not have a ‘traditional’ entertainment programme. Instead, you are invited to attend a range of fascinating talks and lectures given by the AE Expeditions team of specialists. Closely tied to the destination you are exploring, these informative briefings will enhance the time you spend off the ship exploring.
